Trenton Falls Paradise



And a river runs through it!
The valley contains a pristine stream that meanders year round,
through the valley floor and culminates at a historic dam, (just
outside the house), the site of a former gristmill. Here, the water
tumbles over two picturesque waterfalls: One at the foot of the
wrap-around deck, and the other, visible just a stone’s throw
away...where one can watch from  the screen house, as the falls
thunder into a natural dipping pool. The valley is teeming with a
abundant wildlife to enjoy. Great Blue Heron stalk the shoreline

Paradise Valley

Barneveld, NY. Originally, in the mid-nineteenth century, there
spawned here, an enclave of interesting summer residents.
Together, they established an exceptional and vibrant community
that still thrives today. Now harboring both year round and
seasonal residents, the  engaging area history is perpetuated by
the pride of the locals who are always  anxious to engage one in
rich and colorful lore, like that of the Moore's Hotel and Trenton
Falls, where in 1870, Secretary of State, Wm.H. Seward signed a
treaty with Russia to purchase Alaska, (called Seward's icebox),
for only 2 cents an acre!  History springs to life when admiring
some of the original area architecture, such as Thornwood, the
summer studio of Thomas Hicks, (a prominent nineteenth
century portrait artist who painted the official portrait of Abraham
Lincoln, among numerous other notables of the day), still owned
today by his heirs .
